Waste Land: Living In Shambles

Speaking of trash: “Waste Land” (2010) is an impressive documentary about people working and living at Jardim Gramacho outside Rio de Janeiro, at the time the world’s largest landfill.

It is also the uplifting story about New York City based artist Vik Muniz who finds a way to  collaborate with a lively group of ‘catadores’, pickers of recyclable materials. Together they make it to the most prestigious auction house in London via the surprising transformation of refuse into contemporary art.

Waste Land, directed by Lucy Walker, won over 50 film awards.
